The Hall of Fame, sponsored by the Barrington Area Council on Aging, honors outstanding older adults from the Barrington area for their service to enhance the quality of life in the community. Harry was nominated by BACOA for his service since joining BACOA’s board in 2005. Says BACOA Executive Director Joyce Palmquist, “Harry has been a strong advocate on behalf of the organization. He has recruited volunteers to become involved with the organization and has worked hard to spread the word regarding the good work that BACOA does.” And, she adds, “he has a deep understanding of the demands placed on caregivers and how important BACOA’s services for caregivers are.”

Paris or bust!
|
A group of about 40 Garlands members completed their “virtual trek” to Paris, France this September. Although their journey itself was virtual, the physical benefits were very real indeed. Their journey began in April, and they reached their destination in September. Some members of the group walk together each Monday morning while others chose to exercise on their own at The Garlands Fitness Center. Each member of the group logged their progress and the accumulated miles were collected and added up each week. All and all About 40 men and women walked, swam, biked and even climbed their way to the home of the Eiffel Tower--a total of 4,140 miles!
