“My children and grandchildren are impressed with The Garlands,” says charter resident John Georgeson. “And they’re very pleased I’ve found a community in such a central location.”

Everything I need is right here!” explains John Georgeson, who moved to The Garlands in August. “Freedom of choice is what it’s all about, and frankly, I’d rather golf, read and spend time with my family than cook and grocery shop.”

John has lived in the Chicago area all of his life and is a member of the golf club in Woodstock. He notes that Barrington is conveniently located near his four children and seven grandchildren. In fact, he’s already had family members over for meals (when he’s not busy attending the grandkids’ soccer games and recitals!) and enjoys taking them to The Garlands pool.

“I started thinking about moving to a retirement community a long time ago because my father lived in one, and it had a very positive influence on him. The dining, the other residents, the health facilities—they’re all important. I’ve had my name on the list at The Garlands for quite awhile!”

John also appreciates the quality of construction and the variety of amenities and activities available at The Garlands. A former manufacturers’ representative and business owner (retired for seven years since passing ownership of a Chicagoland electric company to his son David), he knows a solid value when he sees one.

“I’m pleased with the way this community is shaping up! It’s working out very nicely,” he adds.

Charter residents Gil and Kay Reich welcome 8 year-old granddaughter Sarah Hovde (carrying her favorite pillow) for an overnight stay at their new home.

When Gil and Kay Reich flew in from Savannah to visit their daughter Linda in Barrington, one event on the schedule was an appointment at The Garlands. “We loved it so much, we signed up that day!” recalls Kay.

The Reichs moved to The Garlands in August and have a long list of favorites when asked what they like best about the community. “The architecture has a warmth and simplicity that are very comfortable to live with,” notes Kay.

Adds Gil, “The design and infrastructure go above and beyond most communities we’ve seen. We love the underground parking, the staff, the flexibility of the dining plan.”

The Reichs had long planned to move near the most centrally located of their three daughters. They hastened their plans after traveling extensively in 2001 to care for Gil’s parents, who had to wait a full year for an opening at the assisted living center they had chosen. Gil says, “We decided we should save our children the hardship of caring for us long-distance. Plus, we’re young enough to enjoy everything here!”

Kay is looking forward to finding a bridge team and planning the couple’s next summer trip. “We enjoy the proximity to an international airport. But most of all, we enjoy our beautiful home!”
