Garlands members learned how to make a classic hummus and pita chips at home from Cat Vaccaro, a cook at the Garlands. For an even healthier snack, hold the chips and dip a carrot stick instead! Here’s the recipe, so you can make at home.
Ingredients you’ll need:
15oz. Can Chickpeas
1 Tablespoon Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
1 Teaspoon Cumin to taste
1/8 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
Extra Virgin Olive Oil to Taste
1 Clove Crushed Garlic
Method:
Open can of Chickpeas, reserving packing liquid to the side. Place chickpeas in food processor and pulse until coarse crumbs in consistency. Add fresh squeezed lemon juice, cumin, cayenne, and crushed garlic to the food processor and turn on. While processor is blending, stream in some reserved chickpea liquid until the consistency is smooth and creamy. Dump remaining liquid. Add salt and pepper and pulse to mix in. Taste and adjust seasonings as necessary. Place hummus into bowl and fill 2/3 of the way. Make a small well in the center of the hummus and drizzle extra virgin olive oil into center of hummus. Serve with pita chips, tortilla chips or warm pita or Naan bread. Enjoy!
