Nothing like exercise, good friends and a little “shopportunity” to help maintain a positive attitude!
Garlands of Barrington members who work out regularly with Inspirational Wellness Director Dr. Sandra Sieber and exercise teacher Bethanie Lochman will tell you that the benefits of exercise class are far greater than physical fitness. Good laughs, a sense of community and a healthy dose of positive attitude are par for the course with each Garlands yoga, aerobics or balance class session.
For example, the duo dubbed the last day of the week “Fancy Pant Friday,” and they encourage members to wear their “fancy pants”–fun leggings or anything with bright colors–to exercise class.
Fancy Pants Friday led to a great idea to go shopping together to further jazz up exercise wardrobes and just have fun! The trendy new retailer in Deer Park, aptly dubbed “Forever 21,” was a perfect destination for these ‘70 and ’80-year-olds who are forever young-at-heart!
The young-at-heart theme ties in perfectly with the retirement community’s limitless aging mentality.
“At The Garlands we live our lives, not our age!” says Dr. Sieber. “We are non–agearians, and we incorporate that feeling of being ‘forever 21,’ having a fun, free spirit and feeling and looking hip and trendy into not just our exercise classes, but our attitude!”
According to Bethanie, “No matter your age, keeping a spark of youth in your heart, and sprinkling it into your wardrobe as well, will always keep you feeling ‘Forever 21.’”
