More than the bees are buzzing about The Garlands blooming gardens! The colorful display of flowers, herbs and veggies stops members and guests in their tracks to smell
and admire the gardens.

Each spring dozens of green-thumbed gardeners stake out their personal plots to plant. They use raised beds to make gardening easier and more productive. Perhaps the best benefit of all is that raised beds mean no bending over to plant, tend and harvest—a back saver for the more
experienced gardeners.
By late summer, gardeners are rewarded for all of their planting, weeding and watering with a variety of sweet, juicy tomatoes and crisp, spicy peppers that are ripe for the picking. Garlands gardeners can skip the market and simply stroll out the door for fresh salad ingredients . . . at least until the first frost!
The Garlands Executive Chef Nick Torres digs the garden too. Chef Nick’s herb patch—with over a dozen fresh herbs including basil, chives, rosemary, parsley and dill—provides the “secret ingredients” that make his dishes so fresh and delicious.
“Members get a kick out of seeing me walk through the community in my chef coat with my basket of fresh-cut herbs,” says Chef Nick. He uses the fresh supply of herbs from mid-June through October in marinades, sauces, soups, salads and garnishes.

Even non-veggie eaters can appreciate the ever-blooming floral spectacle. Orange, purple, pink and yellow petals dot the green leafy landscape with the last signs of summer on colorful display. It’s amazing what a few seeds planted in spring and a little TLC can produce!
