The Garlands is home-sweet-home to Dick and Alice Van Egeren.

When these Garlands Members returned to Barrington, where they raised their five children, it was a happy homecoming after 15 golden years in Arizona.
Once settled, they welcomed a new four-legged family member, Callie, affectionately known as their “Velcro dog.”
Ever perched on a bench below the window overlooking the gardens, Callie enjoys the view as well as daily walks – rain or shine – along The Garlands outdoor paths. Her people enjoy their social bridge group, the art studio, fitness center and pool, superb dining and access to golf.
“It’s like living in a 5-star hotel,” they say.
A career as a commercial insurance broker helped Dick prepare and plan for the couple’s future, which lead them to The Garlands. Ever grateful, the affable Van Egerens pay it forward. Dick is a member of The Garlands Cheer Committee and helps tend a shared garden plot with a neighbor, while Alice frequently entertains family and friends.
